Sarah is from Australia, and clearly loves color! I have no idea how to crochet, so this is particularly fascinating to me, the way the flowers interlock and the different textures they create. I love it! Check out these other amazing photos from her bog:

This is seriously making me wish I cashed in on my grandmother's offer to teach me to crochet. Sarah also has an Etsy shop where she sells beautifully colored wool and even gives advice on color palettes!

Thing-A-Day 2009, Day 26 Ovals

Clearly I have been slacking on my Thing-A-Day duties! the good news is that I have been doing plenty of creative things, including sewing a new baby quilt for my coworker and finally getting my Save-The-Dates out to our guests. I have lots more to do in the coming months so check in often to see what i am coming up with next!

I think i call this pattern "ovals" in both spring time and summer color pallets. Which one do you like better?

Burbujas is the Spanish word for bubbles.... and since it is friday and i will soon be drinking a delicious flute of champagne with my dear friend, Julia, I found it only fitting to post this pattern!

Thing-A-Day 2009, Day 16

Dots!
Since embarking on my mission to create a baby blanket for every human being on the planet (okay, maybe just for my friends and family) I have started to become OBSESSED with fabric. It is really unhealthy and has become quite obvious to my fiance that I am buying way more yardage than I am capable of using. Hoarding might be the verb that describes it best.

AnyFraggle (remember that show!?) I think this would make a nice fabric to add to my collection, don't you think?

Thing-A-Day 2009, Day 14

Happy Valentines Day!
I hope you had a great weekend with your loved ones, and if you were like us you probably stayed in rather than going out to an expensive dinner. We had a great time watching the slam dunk contest (the guy who won was my height, 5'6" and some how jumped over a nearly 7 foot man) and cooking a delicious meal.

We made a shrimp and andouille sausage pot pie with a puff pastry top from this month's Bon Appetit. it was AMAZING. I probably gained a few pounds, and I admit I ate way too much, but hey its in the name of love.

Thing-A-Day 2009, Day Five (I will catch up!)

This past Weekend I went to NYC to visit some wonderful friends from Barcelona and college, and we had the most glorious weather ever. It was sunny and warm and frankly a tease since I know there are still 40 days of winter left. You cant fool me, I am from Minnesota. The warm weather reminded me that crocuses and daffodils are coming!

Thing-A-Day 2009, Day Four

Here is a pattern of the germs. The germs that are infesting my body and making me cough up a lung every time I talk. good thing i work from home or i might be stoned to death by angry cubical mates. I found a picture of the most beautiful bouquet by Sarah at Saipua in Brooklyn and used it for the inspiration of this color pallet. I thought it would be a nice juxtaposition of gross germs and beautiful floral colors!

I am learning a lot about legibility, and thought this color way might work a bit better so small... I am also thinking that I should enlarge the pattern so you can see the details, but here it is for now!

In honor of my cousin, Anne, who loves all things pink and green! I love this pattern because it has a lot of depth, every time i look at it something new appears. Try looking at only the lime green circles, I dare you. I am not sure if it reminds me of something in the Alhambra, or stained glass or what, but I am digging it!

Thing-A-Day 2009, Day Two

For today's pattern, i really wanted to experiment with a color pallet that i wouldnt normally use, and since pink and purple rarely make it into the final drafts, I thought that was a good place to start. I hand drew the concentric circle design, and then colorized it using a warm, autumnal scheme. I think it is feminine but refined. A teacher of mine in art school, Scott Rankin, once told me that the best colors are those that take three words to describe. Pinky-Blueish-Brown. Muted-Yellow-Golden.
