Vintage Character Inspiration from The Imaginary World

I am really bad at drawing people and animals, as in I draw stick figures.... Yes I know, it is horrible. I recently came across this treasure trove of awesome vintage packaging over at The Imaginary World and am in awe of how simple some of these characters are but how much expression you get out of them. We just finished watching season one of Mad Men last night (Yes, I am that far behind. Don't judge me), so these are right up my alley!

I am guessing Cecil is the fish/ swap thing?

That bird kills me!

My personal favorite!

All of these can be found over at The Imaginary World, along with a lot of other images of vintage packaging.

Headboards of a Different Sort

Although we have been living in our home for more than two years, we still haven't had the time/energy/motivation/reason to really decorate our bedroom. Up until last weekend we didn't have bedside tables and were using window sills to hold our lamps and alarm clocks. I know, totally unacceptable!

Over the next few weeks we hope to tackle a couple of big projects: find/make/refurbish a headboard, paint/refinish our new bedside tables (more on that miracle later) and finally make everything look like it actually belongs there. Here is some alternative headboard inspiration I found on Casa Diez, a Spanish interior design magazine.

Anyone have any more ideas for creating your own headboard? I would love to hear about them! Stay tuned for photos of our bedroom before (gasp) and updates on how we are sprucing things up!

Nothing to Wear

I always feel like I simply have nothing to wear (insert fainting and sighing here) particularly because I work from home so my clothes are either for going out or for going to the gym. Here is an outfit made up of things I have been loving lately. There is a preponderance of J. Crew in here, I am unfortunately addicted.

Clockwise from top left// Distressed Skinny Jeans, Banana Republic. Wool Duffle Coat, J. Crew. Oblong Floral Cotton Scarf, Canvas by Lands' End. Top Siders, Sperry. Cashmere Henley, J.Crew. Baroque Brooch Bracelet, J.Crew.

Abby Try Again

Abby Powell Thompson lives in Portland, and takes pictures everyday using several different types of cameras. She has a series on her blog called "Collections" that I absolutely adore. Abby has a shop called Abby Try Again over on Big Cartel where she sells her photographs as well as calendars and cards. Abby doesnt really need to try a again in my opinion. She is doing just fine!

I love the colors and light in these photos, I think the pincushions would look great in my craft area. I would also really like these shaving cream brushes to hang in our bathroom. Gorgeous work!

Light Locations

If you happen to be looking for a location for your next photo shoot, or like me, looking for interior design inspiration, I suggest you head on over to Light Locations. I love these bedrooms filled with bright colors and a mix of textures, old and new:

And I also love this one, which is very unlike me! It is so soft and feminine and I think I would have a fantastic night's rest wrapped up in all of those beautiful floral linens.

Which bedroom do you think most represents your style? Where do you look for your design inspiration when it comes to redecorating your home?

Lauren Doughty

I was over at Daydream Lily the other day, and Liss was featuring the artwork of 17 year old Lauren Doughty. The images intrigued me, I visited her blog, I was overwhelmed. This girl is seriously talented and extremely dedicated to her craft. Lauren combines illustration, collage and sewing to created wonderfully textural pieces. At school in the UK, she is currently documenting her preparations for a trip to Amsterdam. Check out these amazing pages from her sketchbook:

I can't wait to see what she does on her trip! I have the feeling we are going to see some amazing things upon her return.
